Gringo Nordic Guji Hambela Decaf is an organic decaffeinated coffee from the Guji region in southern Ethiopia. The coffee comes from the village of Dimtu Tora, where the Hambela Wamena washing station was established in 2022. The area is characterized by lush forest, small-scale farming, and coffee trees growing in the shade of native trees.
Natural decaffeination with the EA method
The coffee has been decaffeinated using the natural EA method (Ethyl Acetate), in which ethyl acetate produced from sugarcane is used to remove the caffeine. The process reduces the caffeine content by at least 97% while preserving the coffee’s natural flavor and aroma.
The result is a decaffeinated specialty coffee with the clean and lively character that is characteristic of coffee from Ethiopia.

Light and flavourful
A fairly common problem with decaffeinated coffees is that they tend to taste quite similar. Fortunately, Gringo Nordic's Ethiopian Guji Hambela Decaf is an exception (as is Sleepy from the same roastery). It has a light, very pleasant flavour that manages to be both nuanced and balanced. Highly recommended! I only wish the product were available in a larger package.
